Resident Richard on a Glory Flight excursion with his family  Cheering visitors inside ropes cheer on veterans

Glory Honor Flight

“I could not imagine the appreciation, and thoughtfulness put into this to make it happen for me. I just could not picture myself being able to go. I am so glad I went!” Mr. Richard Durica

Mr. Richard Durica came to Shawano Health Services in early June. He was unsteady on his feet and had his arm in a sling. Richard and his grandson had a Glory Honor Flight scheduled last April, but due to medical concerns, they had to postpone their trip. They rescheduled it for June 11th. Unbeknownst to them, Richard would suffer a shoulder injury following a fall at home. Richard had proudly served our county in the Army during the Korean conflict. He was a Yard Master at the Railroad station at Busan South Korea. Richard and his family were apprehensive if he would be able to go. With special planning between the VA in Milwaukee and Shawano Health Services, he and his grandson were able to go.

“It will be one of the most memorable moments in my life. I have never felt so much appreciation as when I came home and they greeted us. The bagpipes, the saluting, and applause will be something I won’t forget. Thank You!”
